Application Instructions – Black Carpet Dye

Before You Start

Ensure carpets are clean, dry, and free from grease or residue.

Mask or protect surrounding trim if needed.

Wear gloves during application to avoid staining hands.

Application Method

You can apply using either method below, depending on the finish you want:

Option 1: Spray & Stipple (Best Finish)

Pour dye into a spray bottle.

Lightly spray an even coat onto the carpet.

Work the dye in using a soft-bristle brush with a stippling/dabbing motion.

Avoid over-saturating — thin, even coats give the best result.

Option 2: Spray & Dab (Faster Method)

Spray dye evenly over the area.

Dab and blend using a brush or sponge.

Ideal for quicker jobs where speed is preferred.

Coverage Guidance

A single 5L container provides excellent coverage.

Example usage: Just under ¼ of a bottle was enough for two coats on the front and rear carpets plus boot of a small hatchback (e.g. Vauxhall Corsa 3-door).

Coverage will vary depending on carpet condition and colour.

Drying & Curing

Dye dries very quickly to the touch.

Allow up to 48 hours for full drying before heavy use.

Once dry, no colour transfer was observed.

After full curing, you may brush with wire suede brush to re fluff fibres

Results

Restores carpets to a deep, fresh black finish.

Ideal for reviving faded carpets rather than replacing them.

Professional-grade results suitable for trade or experienced DIY users.

Tips for Best Results

Apply two light coats rather than one heavy coat.

Stippling gives the cleanest, most uniform finish.

Always test on a small, inconspicuous area first.

FAQs

Q1: How far does one bottle go? Will this be enough for my car?

A: Coverage is very good. For reference, less than a quarter of a 5L container was used to apply two coats to the front and rear carpets plus the boot of a small hatchback. Coverage will vary depending on carpet condition and how heavily it’s applied, but most vehicles require far less product than expected.

Q2: Will the dye rub off or transfer once it’s dry?

A: Once fully dry, no colour transfer has been observed. The dye dries quickly to the touch, and after allowing up to 48 hours for full curing, it remains stable. After curing, a fabric protector can be applied if desired for added longevity.

Q3: Is this difficult to apply? Do I need professional equipment?

A: No specialist equipment is required. The dye can be applied using a standard spray bottle, then worked into the carpet with a soft-bristle brush. Stippling gives the cleanest finish, while spray-and-dab is ideal for quicker jobs. Suitable for trade use or confident DIY users.
