Carbusonic PVA Release Agent
GRP • Fibreglass • Gelcoat • Resin • Automotive Mould Release • Paint Prep
Carbusonic PVA Release Agent is a professional film-forming, water-soluble barrier used to prevent bonding between mould surfaces and resins / gelcoat / composites. Once dry it forms a peel-away release film that helps deliver clean part release and easier post-process clean-up.
Why it works (in plain English)
PVA (polyvinyl alcohol / PVOH) dries to a thin film that acts as a physical separation layer between the mould and the laminate/gelcoat. After demoulding, the film can typically be peeled or washed away with water.
Key Benefits
GRP / fibreglass ready: ideal for gelcoat and resin moulding processes.
Peel-away release film: dries to a continuous barrier to help prevent sticking.
Water-soluble cleanup: removal can typically be done with water (no harsh solvents required).
Easy application: can be applied by spray or wipe (thin, even coats recommended).
Helps protect mould surfaces: barrier layer reduces direct contact with resin/gelcoat.
Trade-friendly: multi-size options for DIY users and professional shops.
Typical Applications
GRP mould making & composite lay-ups
Fibreglass repairs, panel production, kit car / custom fabrication
Gelcoat release on suitable mould substrates
General mould release where a peelable/washable barrier film is preferred
Automotive bodywork processes where temporary barrier/release film is useful
Application Instructions (Best Practice)
Prep: Ensure the mould surface is clean, dry, and contaminant-free. Any wax/release system should be fully cured/buffed per manufacturer guidance.
Apply thin coats: Spray or wipe a light, even coat. Avoid flooding or runs.
Allow to dry: Let each coat dry fully until it forms a continuous film (drying time depends on temperature/airflow).
Build coverage: Apply additional thin coats as needed to ensure complete, uniform coverage on the mould face.
Mould as normal: Apply gelcoat/resin/laminate once the film is dry and continuous.
Demould: Release the part. The PVA film typically stays on the mould/part as a removable layer.
Remove residue: Peel where possible or wash away with water after demoulding.
Pro tips:
Best results come from multiple light coats rather than one heavy coat.
Warm, dust-free conditions improve film uniformity.
Always test on an offcut / small area when using a new mould surface or process.
PVA / PVOH Information (What it is)
PVA is commonly used as shorthand for PVOH (polyvinyl alcohol) in mould release applications. It’s a water-soluble polymer that forms a film when dried, creating a barrier between the mould surface and the resin/gelcoat system.
In practice, the film helps deliver a cleaner release and can simplify clean-up because the layer can typically be removed with water.
FAQs
Q: Is this suitable for GRP and fibreglass work?
A: Yes — it’s designed for use as a film-forming barrier in GRP / fibreglass moulding and repair workflows, including gelcoat and resin systems.
Q: Do I need wax as well as PVA?
A: Many users apply PVA over a properly prepared waxed mould for best reliability. Your process depends on the mould substrate and finish requirements — always test for compatibility with your system.
Q: How do I remove it after demoulding?
A: The film can often be peeled or washed away with water. Avoid aggressive scraping on delicate mould finishes.
Q: Can I spray it?
A: Yes. Spraying typically gives the most uniform film. Apply thin coats and allow full drying between coats.
Q: Does it leave residue?
A: As a sacrificial film, it may leave a removable layer. Cleanup is typically easy with water, but results depend on application thickness and drying.
Q: What sizes do you offer?
A: List your available options in the variation selector (e.g., 250ml / 500ml / 1L / 5L). Trade/bulk enquiries welcome.
Notes:
Use in a well-ventilated area and follow good workshop practice. Always test compatibility on a small area before full application, especially with new mould surfaces, coatings, or resin systems.
